Dream on Back – Talking with Quang Ngo – an event jointly organized by VCCA and Hanoi Grapevine, will be an opportunity for the audience to directly talk with the artist, to understand more about the practice, perspective and style his creations. The program will also introduce Quang Ngo’s latest works through solo and group performances with the participation of special guests: “Here’s my Musicque” group, promising to bring the audience dialogues. enjoyable, memorable musical experiences.

With his natural talent shown in both composing ability, playing a variety of musical instruments such as erhu, zither, dan bau… and inspirational voice, Quang Ngo is considered a national music artist. Typical modern with creative and open thinking. Quang believes that the national music space always has an element of movement and is constantly developing, so he is not only a performer, but also a composer and creator of the music space of the country. My own is just breaking the way, new, harmonious and bold with Vietnamese identity and culture.

Quang Ngo was born in Hai Duong. From a young age, Quang was connected to music through his grandfather – a famous player in the troupe. It was thanks to him that young Quang fell in love with this instrument and gradually absorbed and subtly absorbed the melodies of cheo, chau van, xam singing, etc. Quang nurtured a deep love for music containing his heart. national soul and was allowed by his parents to study the dan er at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music from elementary school to university.

After graduating, Quang Ngo was retained as a lecturer in the Ernx subject at the Department of Traditional Music at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. However, he does not limit himself to the teaching profession, but has a burning desire to develop the strengths of the lute as well as other ethnic musical instruments in order to convey to domestic and foreign audiences the unique musical and cultural values ​​of his music. Vietnamese people follow a new direction, a new expression. He passed the exam and won a full scholarship from the Dutch government to study contemporary music composition at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag, the Netherlands.

Quang Ngo can play many different musical instruments such as Dan Nhi, Dan Bau, Dan Moi, Dan K’ny, Dan Tinh, Dan Chieng String … and possesses a voice rich in folk colors. Having a passion for creativity along with the desire to bring national music to the world through his own lens, combined with the knowledge acquired at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Music, Quang is always on the go. in creative explorations and discoveries.

“Here’s my Musicque” is a group of artists working with the spirit and material of indigenous culture in Vietnam, initially consisting of four members Nguyen Duc Minh, Dinh Anh Tuan, Tran Kim Ngoc and Nguyen Quang Su. Founded in 2012, “Here’s my Musicque” spent the next three years at a workshop in Gia Lam (Hanoi) to explore, create and develop musical instruments mainly made of bamboo and other everyday materials. (like the “Here’s my Musicque” used as the group’s name, jar drum, pig drum, etc.) During this period, Nguyen Duc Phuong became the fifth member. He recorded the group’s activities through paintings and sketches, thereby finding the turning point of his personal artistic practice when mixing earth to use as pigments, experimenting with techniques in terms of lines, tones, and surfaces. Throughout this creative process is the reciprocal inspiration between music and paintings.

After its own shows at Phu Sa Lab (such as Bamboo’s Word or Chem Wind) “Here’s my Musicque” is now operating as an independent artist group, with projects that harmoniously combine elements of music. , visual arts, theater and motion. The group’s latest project – THAT WHERE – IT IS HERE – takes place from September 18 to October 18, 2020 at Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), showcasing paintings and installations by Nguyen Duc Phuong, along with a series of “Here’s my Musicque” performances, workshops and talks.
